Alamo's Innovators provides the skills and understanding necessary to tap into an organization’s creative abilities and develop usable ideas for products, processes, and practices. Innovators enable people to use both analytical techniques and creativity, increasing the innovative output for an organization.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the value of innovation and the vital role each individual can play in making it successful
  • Pay attention to clues for innovation opportunities
  • Define goals for innovation
  • Develop and refine innovative solutions using creative and analytical techniques
  • Clarify steps necessary to implement an innovative idea-and potential roadblock
  • Achieve necessary buy-in for resources and implementation
  • Improve on the initial innovative solutions through the perspectives and input of others

Outline

Innovators is presented in four modules: Innovating, Planning, Presenting Ideas, and Building An Innovative Organization.

Innovating – A bridge between creativity and analysis of needs and solutions. This synergistic approach allows naturally creative and more rationally oriented individuals to work together. Steps include:

  • Opportunity identification
  • Defining the innovation
  • Developing design criteria
  • Generating and combining ideas
  • Evaluating and selecting innovative solutions

Planning – Develop an implementation plan that ensures the success of the ideas. This process is a critical reality check on the viability of a solution and allows early identification of potential problems. Steps include: 

  • Setting the implementation objective
  • Developing and refining the action plan
  • Analyzing potential problems 
  • Preparing preventive and contingent actions

Presenting Ideas – Helps an individual or team communicate effectively with the key decision maker(s) to secure the cooperation and buy-in needed to bring the idea to reality. Steps include:

  • Clarifying presentation objective
  • Identifying and analyzing client needs
  • Aligning presentation to client
  • Developing presentation plan 

Building An Innovative Organization – Learn the key factors of an innovative climate and how to assess the innovative atmosphere in their organization. Steps include:

  • Learn key factors of an innovative climate
  • Assess the innovative atmosphere
  • Recognize their role in encouraging peers and superiors to innovate for continuous improvement

Audience

Innovators training is ideal for any team or individual participating in the continuous improvement effort, from top management to front line employees. Because participants normally work on real improvement opportunities, it is especially valuable for improvement teams -- including cross-functional and multi-level groups.

Delivery

Innovators is a full 2-day, hands-on workshop that can be conducted by Alamo's own facilitators. Alamo's trainers have extensive background to make best use of the principles taught.

A train-the-trainer program is also available and enables you to make the skills a core element of your in-house training program.
